Amritsar secures place in Guinness Book of World Records

AMRITSAR: The striking and offbeat message against drugs through a dance performance given by 8726 students of 40 schools in the first week of October made the Amritsar-a record holder of Guinness Book of World Records. The District Administration has received intimation in this regard from Records Management Team of Guinness World Records informing that the largest bollywood dance performance of students held at local Khalsa College has secured the title of Guinness World Records. 


Overwhelmed by this development, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ravi Bhagat, man behind this initiative, today officially announced that the mass gathering of students to perform on a bollywood song with a view to spreading message against drugs and its ill impacts has brought proud for the city by entering the Guinness Book of World Records. He said that performance of students attired in a same dress on 3 October 2015 under Anti-Drugs Awareness Campaign has added new feather to the cap of holy city.

Giving details of the performance Mr. Bhagat said that gathering of around 9000 school students danced on bollywood song ‘Kehte Hain Hamko Pyar Se India Wale’ to spread a message against drugs. He said that they were overwhelmed with ecstasy when they came to know about the development after getting communiqué from Guinness world records team. He said that it was the joint effort of District Administration, Swami Vivekanand Drug de-addiction center, Pankaj and Preeti Dance Academy and Sun Foundation to arrange the event under anti-drug awareness campaign.

Bhagat informed that intimation in this regard has been received by the administration. He also informed that this performance created a new record by beating the earlier gathering of 4428 in Mumbai in the year 2012 where the participants performed on ‘Dance India Dance’. He said that they broke the record of 1200 participants.

The Deputy Commissioner also congratulated and thanked school students participated in the event, school managements, parents for enthusiasm shown by them to make this gala event a grand success.
