GORAYA: Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, former Punjab Youth Congress President and Phillaur Assembly Incharge, on Monday led the protest against continuous steep hike in prices of petrol and diesel in front of All India Radio (AIR) station here in Goraya.

Accompanied by local Congress leaders, Vikramjit Chaudhary led hundreds of protestors and spoke against the rise in oil prices. The leaders also submitted a memorandum regarding this to SDM Phillaur for sending it to the Government of India.

Addressing the gathering outside AIR station, former PYC President said that due to COVID-19 pandemic, the people were already reeling under severe economic hardships and instead of providing relief to them, Modi government is rubbing salt in their wounds and adding to their burden.
He stated that during this crisis, it is farmers and transporters who have kept the nation running and fed the people, but with rates of petrol and diesel at all-time high, they have to fight for their own survival now.

Vikramjit Chaudhary said it is unfortunate that Prime Minister Modi speaks his Mann Ki Baat on the radio every month but stays silent on real issues of the country and the problems being faced by the people. “Modi ji is not talking about rising fuel prices nor is he clarifying the true status of Chinese infiltration. He is so afraid that he does not even name China in his addresses, ” Chaudhary added.
He asked Prime Minister Modi to pause his Mann Ki Baat and talk about the real issues of Indians.

He further said that the price of crude oil now is around its 2004 level. “When Dr Manmohan Singh’s UPA government could provide petrol at Rs 35 and diesel at Rs 25 after buying crude oil at current rates, why cannot Modi Government do it?” he asked.

Goraya Municipal Council President Kamaldeep Singh Bittu, Goraya Market Committee Chairman Dara Singh Boparai, Rurka Kalan Block Congress President Rakesh Duggal, Chairman Block Samiti Phillaur Davinder Singh Lasara, Phillaur Market Committee Chairman Makhan Singh Khaira, Block Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Rurka Kalan Harjinder Kaur, Ram Lubhaya Punj, all Municipal Councillors of Goraya and several former Municipal Councillors were among those present on the occasion.
