Time limit to pay outstanding House/property tax extended by June 30: Mahindra

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government keeping in mind the hardships being faced by the citizen of the state in the face of global spread of pandemic COVID-19, has decided to extend the deadline to pay the outstanding house tax or property tax without any penalty till 30 June, 2020. Likewise the time limit of One Time Settlement Policy for recovery of arrears of Water and Sewerage charges in the Urban Local Bodies of the State has also been extended up to 30 June 2020. It was disclosed by Mr. Brahm Mohindra, Local Bodies Minister in a press communiqué released here today.

The Local Bodies Minister said that the Punjab Government has taken this decision to provide relief to the citizen of the state who are presently leading from the front in this war against coronavirus. He said that as per the new policy, the persons, who failed to deposit the house tax or the property tax as the case may be, levied under the Act, may now deposit the principal amount in lump-sum with the rabate at the rate of ten percent of the amount by uptill 30 June, 2020.

The Local Bodies Minister said that the persons who fail to deposit the house tax or property tax, as the case may be, by 30 June 2020, may depsit the principal amount along with penalty at the rate of ten percent thereafter, within the period of the next three months.

Mr. Brahm Mohindra further said that the persons, who still fail to deposit the due amount as above, within the period and the manner specified above, shall be liable to pay a penalty at the rate of twenty percent on the amount due alongwith interest at the rate of eighteen percent from the date it became due till the date of its realization.

Further the time limit of One Time Settlement Policy for recovery of arrears of Water and Sewerage charges in the Urban Local Bodies of the State has also been extended uptill 30 June 2020. ‘This extension begins from the expiration of the time allowed vide earlier notification dated 12 February 2020.’ he added.  Mr. Brahm Mohindra said that the notifications in this regard have already been issued.
