Rejuvenation Work of Rajindra Lake Near Completion

PATIALA:With the release of Rs. 5.04 crore by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for rejuvenation of historical Rajindra Lake in Patiala city, on the initiative of Lok Sabha Member Mrs. Preneet Kaur, the restoration work is now near completion.
Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Kumar Amit said that the with the completion of restoration of natural beauty of historical Rajindra Lake, we would be able to conserve the heritage of royal city Patiala, successfully. The lake was constructed in the memory of Maharaja Rajinder Singh by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh 135 years ago. It was lying abondened for the last 10 years and Now, we are restoring the glory of this historical lake as well as beautiful tourist place.
Out of the joint work being done by Patiala Development Authority, Drainage Department and Public Works Department (Building and Roads) to beautify the lake and preserve its heritage look, the work of installing fountains in the lake has been completed by the Drainage Department. Which are now becoming a center of attraction for the people of Patiala.
Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kumar Amit while apprising about the ongoing beautification work of Rajindra Lake, further said that out of the restoration works worth Rs. 504.20 lakhs, Rs. 252 lakhs are being spent on widening and strengthening of the roads around the lake and on the construction of sidewalks. He said that at a cost of Rs. 119 lakh, fountains and pump houses have been installed in the lake which has been completed. Similarly, electrical work is being done at a cost of Rs. 83 lakh in which heritage lights would be installed along with sidewalks and landscaping and plantation of ornamental plants at a cost of Rs. 31 lakh would also be completed with in a month.
Executive Engineer of PWD, Mr. S L Garg while informing about the work done so far, said that the bottom of the lake was levelled with a laser leveller and then two layers of clay were laid to prevent water leakage as well as on the slopes along the lake shores. White stones have been laid. He said that the beautification work of the lake was in full swing and it would be completed within a month.
Superintendent Engineer of Drainage Department Mr. Davinder Singh said that five fountains with illuminated lights have been installed inside the lake, out of which one fountain's pressure is 80 feet high, two 50 feet and two geyser fountains have been installed which are now giving an fascinating look to the lake. Giving information about the source of water, pouring in the lake, he said that the supply of water have been arranged from the Bhakhra Main Line by installing Regulation Valve Gate near railway crossing no. 21, on the underground pipe that was laid to supply water for the sacred Sarovers of Gurudwara Sri Dukhniwaran Sahib and Shri Moti Bagh Sahib.
