Adequate connectivity in the Indo-Pacific will boost the economy of Amritsar: Taranjit Singh Sandhu

Former Ambassador Sandhu raised the issue of a special economic package for Amritsar with the Union Finance Minister 

AMRITSAR: Former Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that with proper connectivity in the Indo-Pacific, Amritsar's economy and income growth potential will increase manifold.

He said that the Gulf countries UAE And good connectivity with other regions including Saudi Arabia will provide an opportunity to break new ground for Amritsar's trade and agriculture sector. Mr Sandhu was addressing a conclave organized by the renowned India Today on 'India and Indo-Pacific: Threats and Opportunities' in New Delhi, said "For Global Betterment" Health Care, I.India's enhanced partnership with the Quad and Indo-Pacific in diverse sectors such as T., digital, energy, education and defense and highlighted the importance of skilled youth.

He said that the border region of Amritsar has huge potential for development in agriculture, industry, commerce, healthcare, tourism and many other sectors.

Talking about tourism, he said that more than 70% of the total tourist arrivals in Punjab is from Amritsar. Apart from developing Amritsar as a tourist industry by expanding religious tourism and promoting hospitality, education, IT, vocational, logistics, pharmaceutical (medicines) and chemical sectors, textile and apparel sector and rice milling related to agriculture, Growth of fruit and vegetable processing sectorsThere are limitless possibilities here.He said that there is a need to promote education and training institutions in Amritsar to supply skilled workers for small and medium enterprises.
They also called for awareness and handholding support for setting up and running a small scale enterprise or business involving women.

He said that adoption of new technology and awareness of plans and process for export and reliable marketing will take the business of Amritsar to new heights.

Earlier, in a meeting with Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman, former ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu discussed the development of Guru Nagar Amritsar and providing basic facilities and raised the issue of giving a special economic package for the development of Amritsar.

He told the Finance Minister that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, notable initiatives have been taken in the field of micro, small and medium enterprises. Awareness about central schemes and facilities should reach common people.
