Rayat Bahra inks MoU to start hotel mgmt courses

ROPAR: The Rayat Bahra Ropar Campus here today signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council (Govt. of India) to start diploma and degree programmes in hotel management to train the youth with requisite skills and knowledge in the hotel management sector.

The MoU was signed by Dr Sonali Sinha, Chief Operating Officer of the Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council, and Dr Suresh Seth, Director of the Rayat Bahra Ropar campus.

Gurvinder singh Bahra, Rayat Bahra Group of Institutions (RBGI), said that another MoU was proposed to be signed with Aerospace and Aviation Council to give a fillip to training youth for placements in different sectors where there was great scope of employment.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Seth said that the government had plans to train 40 crore persons by 2022 but in the last three years only 4 crore had been trained. He said, “We at Rayat Bahra are the first one in India to take this initiative in collaboration with skill councils and Punjab Technical University. We are starting degree and diploma programmes in Hotel Management, Airlines Cabin Crew, Airhostess, Beauty and Wellness Management, Aviation Management, and Hardware and Networking Management.”

Dr Seth said that 60 per cent syllabus would be given by skill councils and 40 per cent by the PTU. Training of the students would be done by professional trainers of the Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council. On the job training would be part of the curriculum in every semester and both placements and on the job training would be taken care of by the Skill Councils.

Dr Sonali, Chief Operating Officer of the Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council, said that there was urgent need to blend formal education and skill education to achieve the targets set by the Union government and this training programme offered an ideal solution to the problem of unemployment in the country.
