Punjab Congress Sarpanch, assembly employees held for links with gangster Gonder

GURDASPUR: The district police have arrested Daljit Singh, a Class-IV employee in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha'>Punjab Vidhan Sabha, and Gurjit Singh alais Gogi, a Congress sarpanch, for alleged links with Nabha jail escapee Vicky Gounder’s gang.
Though the arrests were reportedly made two days ago, SSP BS Virk confirmed the same today.
Daljit Singh allegedly drove Vicky Gounder’s accomplices Manbir Sabhi, Harry Majithia, Sukh Bhikhariwal, Gopi Ghanshampuria and Ravinder Singh alias Gian Kharal from Chandigarh to Gurdaspur on April 20.
Later they gunned down three members of a rival gang Harpreet Singh Subedar, Sukhchain Singh Laddi and Sukha on Amritsar Pathankot bypass here on April 20.
A police team raided the hideout of Surjit Singh, a former SAD sarpanch who switched over to the Congress before the last panchayat elections, at Verowal village in Tarn Taran district. He was booked on the charge of harbouring members of Gounder’s gang after the Kahnuwan shootout.
A case has been registered against the duo under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
Gian Kharal, Sabi and another accomplice of Gounder, SAD sarpanch Jagroop Singh, are already in jail. Kharal was involved in the November 27, 2016, Nabha jailbreak in which Gounder and Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) chief Harminder Singh Mintoo had escaped. The latter was re-arrested later.
It is worth mentioning that Vidhan Sabha employee and congress was arrested on the basis of information provided by the Gian Kharal who was arrested after a brief encounter with the police near Tugalwal village under Kahnuwan police station on June 10., Gian Kharan received a bullet shot in his leg during the encounter and his four accomplice including sarpanch Gurjit Singh Gogi managed to escape.
The Batala police have already booked two persons on the charge of harboring notorious gangster Vicky Gonder who fled the high security Nabha jail in November last year and his accomplice who use their hideouts in and around Batala.
Police believed that Harmanjit Singh, a resident of Greater Kailash colony in Batala and Harpreet Singh, a resident of Mudhi Kural village under Sekhwan Police station provide shelter to used to harbor Vicky Gonder before going abroad . His other gang members Harry Chatha, Sukhpreet Sekhon and Giana Khural were also used to stay in same places.
