Vinod Chauhan, an amateur photographer who made mark at international forum

CHANDIGARH: In present day, skill is considered key factor for success in any profession but Vinod Chauhan has defied it. More than one reason to be proud of this talented photographer is that he has never been trained or skilled by any institute or professional in tricks of photography. He has achieved in photography for which most of photographers could not have dreamt

Hailing from a small village Kot Khai in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh Vinod Chauhan has brought great glory to the country and given us reason to be proud of. Scoring another milestone to his credit in the field of photography, in its recent edition, Photography Society of America’s Who’s Who in its recent edition rated him as world’s No 12 (of 20) top travel photos exhibitor (D). He was also awarded ‘Honorable IUP Distinction’ in photography by the International Union of Photographers (IUP), Belgium for his excellent works. He became the first photographer in north India or perhaps in the country who achieved such heights in photography.

While talking to Daily Post he said that he graduated in engineering from IIT Aurangabad but preferred to go for his own business. But when something nestled in soul that came out of body and photography has been growing in his soul, he said and added that he was engineer by mind but a photographer by soul. Recently, he back from China where he was honoured and also guest for a week.

He also revealed that a picture has taken two hours and every shot was of 20 seconds to complete the mission. The picture will be exhibited in the next exhibition to be held in India. For one of his award winning photographs the judges said that the shot was technically difficult to achieve and he captured the moment perfectly.

His achievement card substantiates his deepness of passion for photography. In a short span of two years, around 2000 photographs were accepted for awards which fetched him 150 awards included distinctions, honors and gold medals at international and national levels. He has eight distinctions and honours to his credit such as AFIAP; AFIP, AICS, AEAIP, HIUP, EIUP, FSoF and RSoF. Besides, his works have been exhibited in 43 countries across the globe.

Mr Chauhan is also life time member of ICS, California; IUP, Hong Kong, China and FIP, India. He is also ambassador of IUP for India under exchange programme. He also runs a photography society named=Tricity Photo Art Society- of which he is the president.
In the evening he is an engineer, in the day he is a photographer on the prowl with a hope to catch big shots. “To me photography is an art of observation. It is finding something unique at an ordinary place, ” says he.

Outside his Sector 34 office his passion will definitely lead him to upgrade his photography gear to capture even more challenging images in the days to come and brings laurels to the country as well as to his state.
