Park transformed from a stinky pond in Alipur by Pargat Singh MLA

JALANDHAR: MLA from Jalandhar Cantt Pargat Singh today dedicated a park in village Alipur to the people after the village Panchayat constructed it over a stinky pond with the help Punjab government.

Last year this 5000 square feet of land in village Alipur near Jalandhar was major source of stink in its vicinity but thanks to Punjab government now this pond stands transformed into a beautiful park. The pond was a  major nuisance in the village as contaminated water used to overflow in houses during rainy season and this pond was breeding ground mosquitoes which led to spread of several diseases. However, when on the instructions of the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh started a special campaign to give facelift to village and officers were asked to ensure holistic development of villages by building parks on vacant government/ village land, after which the process of transformation of this pond started.

The funds from the Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) gave wings to this campaign and a part of the stinking pond in Alipur was transformed into a beautiful park. The park has everything which any city resident could be envy of as it has a well built path way for the pedestrians for walking, around 100 plants including that of Ashoka and other traditional varieties of trees besides the rose shrubs to add its beauty. Likewise, section 1 grass specially transported from Ludhiana has been planted in the park which also has benches to facilitate the people to relax and merry go around for the children to enjoy.

Meanwhile, reiterating the commitment of the state government to ensure comprehensive development of the villages MLA  Pargat Singh said that the state government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has made a comprehensive plan for giving impetus to the all round development of the villages in the district. He said that under this campaign development works have been identified for  villages of the Jalandhar Cantt assembly segment which would be executed from the funds from the Finance Commission, Rural Development Fund and others. Pargat Singh said that an elaborate mechanism has been devised for the smooth and efficient execution of the development projects under this scheme.

The MLA further said that the works would give fillip to the overall development of the villages besides ensuring prosperity of its people. He said that no stone would be left unturned for the well being of the people. Mr. Pargat Singh also lauded the village Panchayat for working tirelessly for transformation of pond into a park.
