"Three Week-Summer School" concluded at Human Resource Development Centre of the GNDU

AMRITSAR: A "Three Week-Summer School (Interdisciplinary Refresher Course)" concluded on 8-7-2019 at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) of the University. Forty university and college teachers pertaining to a multiplicity of academic disciplines from Punjab and from various parts of the country participated in it.
Dr. H.P. Singh, a renowned cardiologist, Medical Director, FORTIS Escorts, Amritsar presided over the valedictory session. In his valedictory address, Prof. Singh rued the deterioration of time-tested moral, ethical values in the society at large and exhorted the teaching fraternity to play a proactive role in stemming this rot. Highlighting the significance of such courses in widening the horizons of the teaching community, he opined that such courses need to be conducted periodically for the other professions as well.
The onus of producing the better citizenry, which is one of the dire needs of the hour, lies on their broad shoulders as well in addition to imparting subject specific knowledge to the students, he added.
Blending his valedictory address with the health tips for the society at large, he defined the health not only as mere absence of a disease, but it also encompasses the overall mental, psychological status. He attributed a number of prevalent health hazards to the changing life style, dietary habits, increasing stress level amongst all the sections of the society.
The teachers can contribute a lot in making the society at large aware of the root causes leading to the manifestation of many fatal diseases, he emphasized. He concluded his address by offering the collaboration of the FORTIS Escorts with the HRDC for organizing awareness sessions to be engaged by the specialists from the FORTIS Escorts. Prof. Satwinder Kaur Dhillon, Coordinator outlined the salient features of this course and motivated them to disseminate the knowledge gained from this course. Prof. (Dr.) Adarsh Pal Vig, Director of the Centre said that the continuous upgradation of the knowledge is imperative for one and all, particularly, for the teaching community. No one can afford to confine only to one's own discipline in the modern era, he further added.
The participants of the course expressed their deep gratitude to the entire team of the centre and also made a few concrete suggestions. Earlier the Chief Guest was accorded a warm welcome by Prof. Adarsh Pal Vig, Prof. Satwinder Kaur Dhillon and Dr. Mohan Kumar by presenting him a sapling and Fulkari.
