Doctors go on one day strike againsat National Medical Commission

PHAGWARA:On a nationwide call given by Indian Medical Association, all allopathy doctors have gone on on one day countrywide strike on Tuesday against the draconian “National Medical Commission” bill tabled in Lok Sabha today.

Giving details Indian Medical Association Phagwara President Dr Rajan in a press release issued here alleged that this bill will hard at the standards of health care.He said the NMC bill will have provisions to allow Ayurvedic and Homeopathy Doctors to practice allopathy after six months course thus bringing them at par with MBBS Doctors, whereas as per new provisions of the bill MBBS Doctor will have to clear another exam for getting licence to practice.

IMA President said  the bill will create totally government nominated  body called NMC which will replace democratically elected Medical Council Of India. He said the states will have negligible say in the functioning of this regulatory body while health is a state subject and the needs of the various states are different from each other.

IMA President expressed his apprehension that the bill will increase corruption in medical education and will push up cost of medical education very high while standard of medical education will fall definitely.

IMA will be forced to go for long time agitation, warned Dr Rajan. He said The Indian Medical Association (IMA)  has strongly opposed the bill and has appealed to the prime minister to revise it in the larger interest of the medical profession.

He said the NMC will "cripple" the functioning of the medical profession by making it completely answerable to the bureaucracy and non-medical administrators.
