Punjab Vigilance nabs driver of RTA Faridkot for taking bribe Rs 15,000

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh June 23 : Punjab Vigilance Bureau today nabbed a driver of Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Faridkot-cum-General Assistant (GA) to DC Faridkot red handed while taking bribe at district administrative complex Faridkot.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) said the accused driver Amarjeet Singh (No. 36/482), a head constable in Punjab Police, has been arrested on the complaint of Baaj Singh of Malout town in Sri Muktsar Sahib district. He added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the RTA and his driver were demanding bribe of Rs 25, 000 from him to allow his new tourist bus to run on the road.

After verifying his complaint a VB team from flying squad-1, SAS Nagar laid a trap and the accused driver was arrested on the spot while he was demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 15, 000 as a first installment in the presence of two official witnesses.

The spokesperson informed that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB Flying Squad, police station, SAS Nagar. Further investigation is under progress and the role of above said RTA, a PCS officer, would also be probed.
