Webinar on Use of Herbal Drugs in the treatment of Diabetes by Aryans

MOHALI: Amid Corona Virus, diabetic patients are more prone to death. To create awareness among diabetic patients, Aryans Pharmacy College, Rajpura organized a webinar on “Use of Herbal Drugs in the treatment of Diabetes”. The webinar was attended by the students of B. Pharmacy & D. Pharmacy of Aryans Pharmacy College and Aryans College of Pharmacy. Later on Pharma students pledged to create awareness among diabetic patients.

S. Jagjot Singh Sidhu, Member Pharmacy Council of India was the Chief Guest while Dr Suresh Kumar, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research, Punjabi University Patiala was the Guest of Honour.  Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group presided over the webinar.

Sidhu while interacting with students said that Herbal medicines have been used throughout the beginning of human history and plays a pivotal role in the prevention and treatment of various diseases.

He further added that at present, herbal drugs have reached widespread acceptability as therapeutic agents for diabetics, arthritics, liver diseases, etc. and emphasized on the use of herbal plants such as bitter guard and plum juice called 'The Ayurvedic juice for Diabetics' and stevia for the control of diabetes. He assured to support Aryans Group for the welfare of students in future.

Dr Suresh Kumar explained the safety and efficacy of herbal drugs. The use of herbal medicines and derived products should be considered within the context of their use. He emphasized on the belief that if a disease has come from nature than cure would also come from nature itself.

Dr Kumar discussed the recent scenario of Covid-19 and said that herbal plants like Ashwagandha could be used for Covid-19.  He further elaborated the use of Metformin drug which is derived from the plant, Galega officinalis used for the treatment of Diabetes Type-2.

Dr. Krishan Singla, Principal, Aryans Pharmacy College; Dr. Garima Thakur, HoD Agriculture Dept., Mrs. Kalindi Madaan, HOD, Pharmacy Dept along with the faculty members Ms. Manjeet and Ms. Pardeep also attended the webinar.
