A seminar on "Dynamics of Federalism in India: Issues and Challenges" held at PU

CHANDIGARH: A One-day national seminar on "Dynamics of Federalism in India: Issues and Challenges" held at the ICSSR building, Panjab University, Chandigarh on 22.03.2024 at 10.00 a.m.

Sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Sciences Research (ICSSR), a one- day, national seminar was organized by the Department of Political Science, Centre for Distance and Online Education on the theme, "Dynamics of Federalism in India: Issues and Challenges".

Professor Harsh Gandhar, Director of the Centre for Distance and Online Education, welcomed the Chief Guest, delegates, and scholars, including distinguished resource-persons such as the Dean-Research, Prof. Harsh Nayyar, Prof. Rekha Saxena, Prof. Kuldeep Singh, and Prof. Ronki Ram. Prof. Gandhar expressed her concerns regarding resource allocation imbalance between the center and states, highlighted the need for evolving a mechanism to address this issue of crucial significance. The seminar's convenor, Prof. Emanual Nahar, provided an overview of the seminar's theme, emphasizing four main phases of Indian Federalism.

Prof. Rekha Saxena, the key-note speaker, stressed the importance of translating federalism into practical solutions for the country's needs. Prof. Kuldeep Singh voiced his dissonance on the abrogation of Article 370 as a non-federal act, questioning the judiciary's role in safeguarding constitutional principles. The seminar included three parallel technical sessions chaired by the inside and outside faculty members of the university such as Prof. Ronki Ram, Prof. Ashutosh Kumar, Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Prof. Simrit Kahlon, and Prof. Manvinder Kaur.
