CHANDIGARH: Indian players Yuki Bhambri and Prajnesh Gunneswaran made their exit, losing their second qualifying matches in the Australian Open Tennis Championship in Melbourne on Wednesday.
Tomas Machao of Czech Republic, ranked 130th had no problem prevailing over 1049th ranked Yuki Bhambri of India in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in the qualifying second round in 64 minutes.
The Czech player dominated the first set, breaking Yuki Bhambri in the second and sixth games. Tomas Machao won the second set after breaking Yuki in the third and ninth games.
Yuki Bhambri, whose first serve was 61 per cent in (30/49) committed five double faults and had a lone ace to his credit. Tomas Machao served six aces and did not make any double fault. He kept his first serve 62 per cent (29/47) in. The Czech player won 80 per cent breakpoints (4/5) while Bhambbri wasted one breakpoint
Earlier, Maximilian Marterer of Germany defeated Prajnesh Gunneswaran of India by 6-2, 7-6 (8) in the singles second round qualifying.
Morterer won the tie-breaker in the second set after saving set points in the tie-breaker.
Earlier in the second set, Morterer broke Gunneswaran in the second game to take a 2-0 lead. However, Gunneswaran broke Marterer in the seventh game as the set progressed to 6-6 before the tie-breaker.
Earlier, in the first set Marterer broke Gunneswaran in the sixth and eighth games for a 6-2 win in the set.
The match lasted one hour and 26 minutes. Marterer fired 11 aces and committed two double faults. Gunneswaran served three aces and committed two double faults. Marterer hit 23 winners in comparison to 12 by Gunneswaran.
