One-Day Seminar on “Empowering Agricultural Sustainability Through Artificial Intelligence”

AMRITSAR: Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Karamjeet Singh, a one-day seminar on “Empowering Agricultural Sustainability Through Artificial Intelligence” was organised by Punjab School of Economics, Guru Nanak Dev University. The seminar was organised in collaboration with the Centre for Agricultural Research and Innovations (CARI) under RUSA 2.0.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh delivered the presidential remarks where he emphasised the growing importance of artificial intelligence in transforming the agricultural sector and ensuring sustainable development. He emphasised on ensuring “Sarbat da Bhala”, a teaching of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, meaning enabling well-being for all. He highlighted the fact that AI should be our agent rather than humans being AI’s agents.

He appreciated the collaboration of Guru Nanak Dev University with universities like GGSIPU, New Delhi and University of Poland in his forward looking address.

Earlier, Dr. Baljit Kaur, Head, Punjab School of Economics, Guru Nanak Dev University welcomed the guests and others. In his keynote address, Prof. Gagandeep Sharma, Professor at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi remarks focused on creating technologies that could integrate the fragmented agriculture sector. He cited the example of Zomato, a very popular food delivery giant in India which has achieved a great success following the integration model. He shed light on the fact that there is ample competence in Punjab’s youth to come up with novel ideas.

Distinguished speaker, Prof. Dariusz Sala, from AGH University of Science and Technology, Poland highlighted the importance of studies in agriculture in relation to artificial intelligence and appreciated the collaborations of AGH University with Guru Nanak Dev University.

Prof. Dariusz Cichon from AGH University of Science and Technology, Poland used audio video aids and emphasised the opportunities offered in the University for Master’s and Ph.D. programmes.
