AMRITSAR: The Language Department, Punjab has been making continuous efforts for the promotion of Punjabi mother tongue, literature, and book culture. In this regard, under the leadership of Punjab Government and Director, Language Department, Punjab, S. Jaswant Singh Zafar, a special scheme has been launched to promote book culture through the Book Matching Grant Scheme for schools, colleges, and rural libraries. Under this scheme, institutions purchasing books of a certain amount will receive books of an equal value free of cost.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Research Officer, District Language Office, Amritsar, informed that the primary objective of this scheme is to encourage students and readers towards books and to enrich libraries with quality literature. He stated that this initiative will especially benefit libraries in rural areas and further expand the treasure of knowledge. He appealed to educational institutions and rural libraries of the district to avail maximum benefit from this scheme of the Punjab Government.
He further stated that institutions interested in purchasing books may submit a request letter on their official letterhead, signed by the head of the institution, at the District Language Office, Amritsar (District Administrative Complex, Room No. 301, Third Floor). He also informed that quality religious, literary, and historical books are available at the District Language Office, Amritsar, on which special discounts are being offered — 10% discount on purchases up to Rs. 500, 15% on purchases between Rs. 501 and Rs. 1000, 25% on purchases between Rs. 1001 and Rs. 2000, 30% on purchases between Rs. 2001 and Rs. 3000, and up to 40% discount on purchases above Rs. 3000.
