DC inspects flood protection works in Phillaur Subdivision

PHILLAUR(Jalandhar):Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Ghanshyam Thori today said that district administration was fully vigilant to tackle any sort of emergency situation in the flood-prone areas of the district.
The Deputy Commissioner, who inspected the ongoing flood protection arrangements in the Phillaur Sub Division, said that elaborate arrangements have been made by the district administration to deal with any sort of alarming situation. Mr. Thori visited the Mau Sahib Meowal Complex where the work of strengthening the Dhussi bandh was being carried out by the department. He inspected the work to assess the ground level situation in the wake of the release of excess water.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the officers to ensure that the further work required for this purpose was also completed at the earliest. He asked the officers of the drainage department to remain vigilant to check any sort of damage due to an increased inflow of water.Thori assured the villagers that the district administration has made elaborate arrangements to meet any sort of urgency.
During review of arrangements, the Deputy Commissioner also asked the officers to make the necessary arrangements in terms of sand refill bags and hiring of heavy machinery to, if required, to deal with any sort of alarming situation. He reiterated that district administration has already made all the necessary arrangements for flood control in the district and no stone would be left unturned to facilitate people in the hour of crisis.Thori said that the district administration has already made adequate arrangements to meet any sort of situation in the wake of the rainy season.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the contingent plan has been prepared by the very department and they were fully equipped to tackle any sort of situation. Thori said that the evacuation plan, in case of flood, has already been finalized and the sensitive places have been identified along with the safe places where the residents of flood-prone areas would be shifted if required. He also deputed District Revenue Officer Mr. Jashanjit Singh to oversee arrangements at village Motipur and District Development and Panchayat Officer Iqbalpreet Singh to village Lasaada.
On the occasion, Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr. Vineet Kumar, District Revenue Officer Jashanjit Singh, District Development and Panchayat Officer Mr. Iqbaljit Singh and other officers were also present.
