CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs on the third day of the budget session on Wednesday, took up the issue of the employees and the unemployed who had been struggling on the streets for a long time over their legitimate demands. AAP MLA Rupinder Kaur Ruby raised the issue of Punjab employees and the unemployed.

Speaking on the Governor's address, Rupinder Kaur Ruby said that instead of acceding to the demands of the employees, Captain Amarinder Singh government had reneged on its promises by giving pretext of lack of resources and Covid pandemic in their speech. She said that Captain Amarinder had made many promises to the employees before the elections but now he was making excuses to the masses. She said that the government was making excuses of Covid pandemic, which hit in 2020, but even before that the government had not given anything to the employees in its three years.

She said that the Captain government had also overlooked the work done by the front line employees in the dreaded disease like Corona. Rupinder Ruby further said that the government should have honoured the permanent employees by giving accreditation, making the raw employees permanent but the government instead was imposing a tax of Rs 200 on those employees as a matter of development. "Since the advent of Congress government in Punjab, the number of unemployed was increasing day by day and people were being misled on the pretext of employment fairs, " she added. She stated that the neighbouring state of Haryana had recently fixed 75% quota for the youth of its state in the private sector and the Punjab government should also fix a quota for the youth of its state.

The MLA further said that on one hand the youth were unemployed and on the other hand the Captain government was exploiting the youth economically by taking hefty fees for the nominal posts. She raised the slogan in the assembly: ''Captain Sahab, Google Pay karo, Berozgaro ka paisa wapas karo'' (Captain Sahab, do Google Pay and return the money of unemployed). She said that the Captain government had failed to provide employment to the youth and the speech of the Governor about the achievements of the government was a bundle of lies. Raising the issue of unemployed teachers, MLA Manjit Singh Bilaspur said that the 'Unemployed Teachers' Sanjha Morcha' had been staging a permanent dharna outside the Education Minister's residence demanding employment for a long time. He said that their demands should be met immediately.

MLA Aman Arora questioned about the announcement of Punjab as open defecation free (ODF) by Captain Amarinder Singh government on March 18, last year. He said that as per the standards of becoming an ODF state, every poor household needs to have a toilet. Arora said that the government had allocated ₹1400 crore to meet these efforts but majority of these funds had been pocketed by Captain Amarinder and his cronies. Arora further stated that over 50 households of village Jhadon in his constituency did not have toilets. He said on this, the Captain government did not have any answer."I have the answer, the answer is that just like these households, there might be many more that do not have toilets constructed. This makes things very clear. Captain Amarinder has failed in making Punjab an ODF state and has used that money to make himself and his cronies richer, " he added.
