PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | February 23, 2021 06:35 PM

CHANDIGARH: BJP National General Secretary Tarun chugh today said that Punjab chief Minister Amarinder Singh's double standards on farmers welfare were exposed after he favoured a liquor baron to set up a distillery in Hiranwali village in Fazilka district.

In a statement here Chugh said farmers of 29 villages have been protesting against the setting up of liquor distillery but the Amarinder government, which claimed itself to be supporter of farmers, has overlooked farmers' pain to help a liquor baron.

Chugh also lambasted state Minister Rana Gurjit Sodhi for playing a dubious role in the controversy.

Chugh said ever since the Amarinder Singh government has come to power it had been promoting liquor mafias much at the cost of common man's health.

Chugh said setting up of distillery will cause immense health hazards for people and agriculture in the areas of Fazilka.

He demanded the state government to immediately withdraw permission for distillery in the interest of people's health.

" Following double standards for farmers is an age-old gimmick of the Amarinder government and by planning distilleries in the state the chief Minister was also exposing the hollowness of his anti-drug campaign in Punjab, " Chugh said adding that the chief Minister gives only lip service to such serious matters reflecting his duplicity and insincerity.
