CHANDIGARH: The Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, in collaboration with the PU NCC Army Wing, organised an Environmental Protection and Energy Conservation Awareness Drive on the campus. The initiative aimed to promote environmental sustainability, energy conservation and eco-friendly practices among students, faculty members and staff.
The programme commenced with an address by Capt. Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Chairman, Centre for Police Administration and Coordinator, NCC, PU, Chandigarh. Emphasising the urgent need for environmental protection and responsible utilisation of natural resources, he encouraged the PU community to adopt sustainable practices in daily life. He highlighted the importance of reducing carbon emissions and conserving fuel by observing “Vehicle-Free Day” every Wednesday and encouraged the use of vehicle pooling, electric vehicles and bicycles to minimise dependence on fossil fuels.
Capt. Dr. Kuldeep Singh observed that environmental protection is a shared responsibility and that small behavioural changes can make a significant contribution towards cleaner air, reduced pollution, energy conservation and a healthier future for generations to come.
As part of the awareness drive, teams of NCC cadets, accompanied by faculty members and staff of the Centre for Police Administration and NCC Army Wing, visited various teaching departments, offices and academic blocks across the campus. Through direct interaction and awareness activities, they encouraged students, faculty members and employees to actively participate in environmental conservation efforts and adopt sustainable practices.
The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from Dr. Satnam Singh, Ms. Sweety, Mr. Rohit Kumar, Mr. Suresh Kumar and Ms. Poonam, along with 20 NCC cadets and students, who played an active role in spreading awareness about environmental responsibility and energy conservation.
The programme concluded with a pledge by all participants to protect the environment, conserve energy resources, reduce pollution and contribute towards building a cleaner, greener and more sustainable society.
