Mobiles Recovered from Kapurthala Jail, FIRs Registered Under Prison Act

PHAGWARA: Kapurthala Central Jail authorities have once again seized prohibited items during routine checks, exposing attempts by inmates to use mobile phones behind bars. Two separate recoveries within a span of three days led to registration of cases under Section 52-A of the Prison Act.

Assistant Superintendent Dheeraj Kumar led a surprise check at the Central Jail. Inmate Paras, a resident of Jhuggi area near Geeta Bhawan, P.S. Gurdaspur, was found in possession of banned items. Along with him, another unidentified accused—whose arrest is still pending—was also booked. Officials recovered two mobile phones (Vivo make), one SIM card and a battery from their possession. On the basis of a report filed by ASI Lakhwinder Singh an FIR was registered at Kotwali Kapurthala Police Station under section 52A prison act.

In a similar case another raid was conducted by Assistant Superintendent Satpal Singh. This time, two undertrials were found with mobile devices. Kamal Nath, resident of Indira Colony, Jalandhar, and Mithun alias Mishu, resident of Jalandhar Cantonment, were booked. While Mithun’s arrest is still pending, both were charged after recovery of two mobile phones—one Vinto make with SIM and battery, and another Samsung keypad model.
