Top seed Ilamparthi defeats Sourjya Mukherjee

CHANDIGARH : Top seed talent Ilamparthi of Tamil Nadu, who was upset in the second round by Vidit Jain from Punjab, came back strongly by thumping Sourjya Mukherjee of West Bengal in the third round leaving him one point off the leaders in the 31st National under-9 Open and Girls Chess Championship being organized by the District Chess Association Guragaon under the aegis of the Haryana Chess Association at Shriram Global School in Sector 45 ,Gurgaon .
At the end of the third round there are 19 players in the lead with three points out of three while there are 22 players with 2.5 points out of three.There are a further eight rounds to go.
Giant killer Vidit Jain from Punjab had to face bitter defeat at the hands of Sairaj Dilip Vernekar from Goa. Prominent among the leaders are third seed Prinash Das of Odisha,Saraj Vernekar, John Veny from Kerala,and Gyana Sai Santosh from Andhra Pradesh.
In the girls section top seed Jahnavi Sri Lalita Malla Reddy justified top billing by scoring three points out of three rounds when she outplayed Swetha from Tamil Nadu on the top board. There are 11 other girls on three points out of three with the prominent among them being second seed Anupam .M.Sreekumar and Rout Yashita from Odisha who upset third seed Netra P Savalkar in the third round.

Open Section; Ananth Ramdas(2) TN drew with Kadam Om Manish (2) Maharashtra, Priansh Das (2) Odisha defeated Sadbhav Rautela (2) from Uttarakhand., Ayaan Agarwal(2) Punjab defeated Shaikh Sumer Arsh from Andhra Pradesh, Satwik Kapoor (2) Haryana drew with Chetan Anand (2) from Karnataka, Daaewik Wadhwan (2) Delhi lost to Kakodkar Joy(2) from Goa.
Under-9 Girls: Jahnavi(2) Tel defeated Swetha (2) from Tamilnadu, Falak Joni Naik (2) lost to Anupam M Sreekumar (2) Kerala, Netra Savalkar (2) lost to Rout Yashita (2) Odisha, Sai Neha (2) from Tamilnadu lost to Chandakhedi Yashika(2) Maharashtra, Dakare Rucha (2) Mah lost to Rajanya Dutta (2) West Bengal.
