Three students of Indian origin among 9 awarded AAAI scholarships

INDIANAPOLIS: Three students of Indian origin were among nine from the Asian countries who were awarded scholarship at the 10th Annual Asian American Festival at the Indiana State Museum here. Asian American Alliance is proud of nine Asian American Leadership Scholarship recipients who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in civic and academic organizations. They exemplified the rich Asian values and Hoosier spirit.
Meghna Reddy of HSE High School, Aditya Bhatt of Park Tudor and Nikhil Jain of Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School were the Indian Americans students who received the scholarship from Indianapolis Mayor Joseph Hogsett.
Shayan Khurram of Carmel High School was the sole Pakistani student to receive the scholarship. Michelle Zhu and Justin Hu, both of Park Tuor, Anna Jacobs of North Central High School and Grace Zhang of Carmel High School, were the four Chinese selected for the scholarships this year. Burmese Nibor Chin completed the list of the awardees.
According to Asian American Alliance Inc. vice present Rupal Thakker Thanawala, who hails from Mumbai, the AAAI has to date disbursed over $85,000 in scholarships to Indianapolis Public Schools and the Asian students.
The AAAI encourages Asian American High School student (grade 9-12) from Central Indiana with outstanding civic, academic, and community leadership, to apply for the merit-based Asian Leadership Scholarship.
The Asian American Alliance, Inc Meanwhile, 10th Annual Asian Fest 2017 attracted more than 2000 visitors from the Asian countries and other nations who are now settled here. Arts, culture and traditions, mouth-watering cuisne, dances and information about the Asian countries were at display. It was a "Taste of Asia".
The Asian Fest highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Asia that can be found in Central Indiana, the theme country this year was Japan. Display of the Japanese colorful dresses for different occasions/ceremonies was appreciated. Attired in from traditional dresses to modern 'New York" dress, the participants impressed the spectators.
Besides, the Japan cultural discovery, music and dance performances from China, India, Japan, Philippines and other countries were attractive part of the Asian Festival.
