Surjit Hockey Academy face DAVSSS Shahabad in final

CHANDIGARH: As expected formidable Surjit Hockey Academy of Jalandhar and DAV Senior Secondary

School, Shahabad Markanda (Haryana) set up title clash in the 16th Coal India SN Vohra Memorial Sub-Junior (Under-14) Hockey Tournament being organised by Rock Rovers Hockey Tournament being played at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here.

Surjit Hockey Academy snuffed out the challenge of MSS Hockey Academy of Gazipur by an impressive margin of 6-2 in the semi-final match. The winners led 4-0 at half time.

In a contrasting style, DAV Senior Secondary School faced a stiff resistance from Chandigarh XI before posting a hard-fought 3-2 verdict in the first semi-final contest. The teams played a defensive and probing game. It was Chandigarh XI who drew the first blood as they forced a penalty corner in the 17th minute and Raman converted it .

DAV Senior Secondary School launched their offensive and restored parity in the 23rd minute by converting a penalty corner through Arshdeep. The teams were tied one-all at half time. Four minutes after resumption DAV Senior Secondary School forged ahead through Lovepreet who dribbled his way into the circle to score a field goal. Playing before the home crowd, Chandigarh XI levelled the score as Raman found the object in the 44th minute by scoring a field goal. Karanbir snatched the match-winner (3-2)  in the 56th minute.

In the second semi-final Surjit Hockey Academy were leading by 5-0 at half time. It only in the late second half session, MSS Hockey Academy were able to score two goals through Rahul (51st, penalty corner) and Ajit (63rd, PC).  Dilraj emerged the top scorer for Surjit Hockey Academy as he scored three goals (33rd FG, 34th FG, and 65th, PC). Prabhjit gave the Jalandhar team lead in the 7th minute. Harmanpreet contributed a brace by scoring in the 18th and 39th minutes (both field goals).

The final will be played tomorrow at 3.30 p.m.

Earlier,3BRD Air Force will meet AG Punjab and Haryana in the final of the Chandigarh Senior State Hockey Championship at 2 p.m
