Semi-finalists spotted in Chandigarh National Ranking Tennis

CHANDIGARH: Top seed Paramveer Singh Bajwa, seventh seed Bharat NIshok Kumaran,     N. Calvin Golme and qualifier     Rishabh Sharda advanced into men's singles semi-finals of the  CLTA-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championships at the Sector 10 Tennis Stadium here today.

 In quarter-final matches, Paramveer Singh Bajwa ousted Vilaser Khate 6-3, 7-6(2); Bharat Nishok Kumaran defeated qualifier Bharat Bhardwaj  6-1, 6-7(9), 6-4;  N. Calvin Golmei just managed to beat Udayan Bhakar 6-7(4), 6-3, 7-5 and  Rishabh Sharda [upset sixth seed. Shubham Malhotra 6-3, 7-6(8).

CLTA trainee Rishabh Sharda played aggressive game from the baseline. In the first set which be won by 6-3. In the second set Shubham Malhotra came back holding the serve till 6-6. In the tie breaker both the players were playing for every single point till 8-8, Rishabh won the next two points to win the match 7-6 (10-8).

Another CLTA trainee Calvin Golmei played a marathon match against Udayan Bhakar. In the first set both the players were playing consistent and aggressive ground strokes. Udayan Bhakar won the first set 7-6 (7-4). Calvin bounced back  into the game and claimed the second set w  6-3. In  the final set both the players were  holding serve till 5-5. Calvin held his serve in the 11th game and broke Udayan Bhaka in the 12th game to emerge winner by 7-5.   

In the women’s singles quarterfinal rounds,  Sara Yadav disposed of the challenge of fifth seed  Himaanshika  6-2, 6-1; eighth sed   Neha Ghare upset eighth seed Anaam Almas 6-2, 6-3; third seed  Kaavya Sawhney prevailed over seventh seed Prinkle Singh 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 and second seed  Anupreet Bedi had an easy round against Pawandeep Kaur 6-3, 6-0


CLTA trainee Pinkle Singh dominated in the first set against Kaavya Sawhney.   Prinkle won the first set 7-5. In the second set Kaavya came back into the game and won 6-3. In the final  and deciding set Kaavya played her best game to blank  Prinkle  by 6-0.to move into semi-final.

Neha Ghare caused a mild upset as she  defeated Anaam Almas in straight sets 6-2, 6-3,
