Punjab and Patiala beaten in National Women Hockey

ROHTAK : Hockey Punjab and Patiala lost their opening group matches in the Hockey India 7th Senior National Championships 2017 (Women) ‘A’ Division at Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex here today.
In the day’s opening encounter in Pool C, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy blanked Hockey atiala 7-0. Goals for Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy were scored by Jyoti Pal (7th), Th. Suman Devi (15th), Sarita Devi Brahmachariyum (17th, 42nd), Karishma Singh (30th), Upasana Singh (35th) and Anjali Gautam (37th’).
In Pool A, Association of Indian Universities beat Hockey Gangpur – Odisha 5-2. Jyoti Gupta (11th, 14’th and Narinder Kaur (25th, 55th) scored a brace each in their commanding victory. The two goals for Hockey Gangpur – Odisha were scored by Rinki Kujur (35th, 39th).
In Pool C, Uttar Pradesh Hockey beat Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu with a score line of 9-1. Riding on Yogita Bora's (14th, 34th, 36th) and Mumtaz Khan's (9th, 26th, 59th) hat tricks, Uttar Pradesh Hockey put on a clinical performance to seize the victory. Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu’s only goal was scored by M Mohanapriya (42th).
Hockey Jharkhand beat Hockey Punjab 4-1 in their Pool B encounter. Sangita Kumari was the hero for Hockey Jharkhand, scoring an outstanding hat-trick (5th, 18th, 47th) to give Jharkhand the victory. Hockey Punjab’s goal was scored by Anu Bala (44th).
In Pool D's game, Hockey Odisha edged out Hockey Maharashtra by a single goal. In a tactically locked game, it was Hockey Odisha's Elima Minz who broke the deadlock in the 27th minute with a well taken field goal. Despite, both teams creating several opportunities throughout the game, clear chances were hard to convert. In the end, it was Minz's strike that proved to be the difference as Hockey Odisha took the three points.
