PU emerge winners in Varsities Judo

CHANDIGARH: With five gold, one silver and one bronze medals, hosts Panjab University emerged overall champions in the the All India Inter University Judo (Men) Championship at the Panjab University Gymnasium here today. Panjab University colleced 29 points for the team trophy.
Guru Nanak Dev University of Amritsar finished runners-up with 19 points while the third position was claimed by Maharishi Dayanan University of Rohtak who got nine points. DDU Gorakhpur finished fourth by logging five points.
Vikas Khrab of Panjab University, Chandigarh defeated Aman (Guru Nanak Dev University-Amritsar in the 66 kg category final as his team raced to victory. Earlier, Panjab University had won gold medals through Akshay (56 kg), Munish (73 kg), Sunil Kumar (90 kg) and Amit Dhull (100 kg).
Results: 60 kg: 1 Vijay Kumar Yadav ( DDU-Gorakhpur), 2 Pardeep Saini (Panjab University, Chandigarh), 3 Manish Khawale (Dr. BAM-Aurangabad) and Ankush Lathwal (MDU-Rohtak).
66 kg: 1 Vikas Khrab (Panjab University, Chandigarh), 2 Aman (Guru Nanak Dev University-Amritsar), 3 Jatin (MDU-Rohtak) and Vaidya Ajinka ( SB Phule Pune University).
81 kg: 1 Harshdeep Singh (Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar). 2 Harshal Thite (Dr. BAM University, Aurangabad), 3 Divesh (Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra) and Ashish (MDU-Rohtak).
Open: 1 Harshdeep Singh (Guru Nanak Dev University-Amritsar), 2 Rajesh Sharma (Punjabi University, Patiala), 3 Sunil Sheoran (Panjab University, Chandigarh) and Kuldeep (LNIPE-Gwalior).
Overall Championship: 1 Panjab University, Chandigarh 29 pointsl; 2 Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar 19 points; 3 MDU Rohtak 9 Points; 4 DDU Gorakhpur 5 pts.
