CHANDIGARH: Fifth seed Arjun Khade continued his fine form as he downed Munish Suresh Kumar in a facile 6-2, 6-1 win in the second round of the nternational Tennis Federation (ITF) Men’s Futures US$-15,000 Tennis Tournament at Tennis Stadium, Sector 10, here today.. Khade’s all-court game was too strong for the fragile-looking Kumar.

Karunuday Singh showed off his enhanced physical prowess by ousting former CHART trainee and Davis Cupper Vijayant Malik. The 27-year-old has been training his physique extensively with the trainer of Italian world number 19 Fabio Fognini and the results reflect in his fluid court coverage and explosive hitting. Malik had played a tough three-setter the day before and the impact of that was also obvious in his 2-6, 1-6 loss.

The fine run of CLTA’s Calvin Golmei came to an end in the face of a 2-6, 1-6 loss to Spain’s Boulda Purkiss. Golmei showed good composure out on court on Wednesday but the 18-year-old is still a junior in the transition phase to men’s tennis. The exposure that the wild card got our local trainee goes on to reflect as to just what state associations have to conduct tournaments of this level despite the significant monetary implications. The one ATP point that he has earned will ensure that he begins to get an easier entry into qualifying rounds of other events.
