PNB and IAF score wins in contrasting styles

CHANDIGARH: In a high scoring match Punjab National Bank defeated SGGS Club by 8-3 in the 47th SN Vohra's All-India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today. In a contrasting style Indian Air Force grounded Electrical andm Mechanical Engineers by 3-2.
EME dominated the first half and scored two goals in their period to lead 2-0.  These  goals were scored in a span of four minutes. Mandeep Singh struck in the 32nd minute and Ph Biju Singh doubled the margin.
EME kept their lead  intact till the 58th minute. Air Force swing into action and earned a penalty corner in the 58th minute which was converted by Daman. Having met the success. Harwant found the target in the 59th minute to restore parity for IAF. Keeping the pressure, IAF were awarded another penalty corner in the 61st minute and Daman converted it to snatch a thrilling win for IAF.
Earlier Punjab National Bank had territorial supremacy against SGGS Club. They led 3-1 at half time.They shot into the lead throught Bhagat Singh who converted a penalty corner in the 13th minute N Jen Jen Singh doubled the score with  a field goal in the 15th minute.
SGGS Club scored their first goal through Gursewak in the 19th minute to reduce the margin. In fact Gursewak accounted for all the three goals SGGS Club could manage against the fleet-footed bankmen. Gursewak's other two goals came in the 62nd and 66th minutes and helped SGGS Club to avoid total surrender.
Meanwhile, Sanjay further increased the margin for PNB just before the half time. On crossing over Sukhjeet (40th, 54th), Gagandeep (49th), N Jen Jen Singh (60th) and Gurjinder Singh (68th) scored goals to make the PNB tally bigger.
Tomorrow's fixtures: Punjab and Sind Bank vs Central Railway, Bombay (2.15 p.m); SC Railway, Hyderabad vs Punjab Police  (4.15p.m).
