Khalsa College Recreates History, Lifts Overall GNDU Trophy after 18 Year

AMRITSAR: Virtually regaining the lost ground, the historic Khalsa College has created history of sort by re-claiming the overall Guru Nanak Dev University (Boys) Championship Trophy after 18 years. It was in 2000 that the College which has given Olympians to nation had lifted the trophy and in later years other GNDU colleges had taken over.

Khalsa College Governing Council honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina today congratulated Principal Dr. Mehal Singh over the historic win. GNDU VC had presented the trophy to Dr. Mehal Singh and his sports department including Dr. Daljeet Singh, Head, Department of Sports.  The College achieved 29480 Points and defeated nearest rival Lyallpur Khalsa College with the difference of 8417 Points.

Dr. Mehal Singh said the College’s performance in varsity tournaments had been par excellence resulting in winning the trophy after a huge gap. Apart from this, he said 13 students of the College participated in the International tournaments and won 3 gold, 3 Silver and 3 bronze medals while 137 students participated in the All India Inter Varsity and National level tournaments bagging 61 Gold, 62 Silver and 57 Bronze Medals.

In addition, the College also won prestigious Shaheed Bhagat Singh Championship Trophy the College. Dr. Daljeet Singh HoD attributed this achievement to the players and the far sightedness of Principal and management especially KCGC Chief Satyajit Singh Majithia and secretary RMS Chhina. He further said that 36 teams participated in GNDU (Boys) Championship out of which 15 teams stood first, 10 second and 12 achieve third place while in the girls 12 teams took part in the games out of which 5 teams stood first 4 Second and 2 obtained Third place.

Mr. Chhina said the management was committed to promote the sports culture and create an outstanding infrastructure for sports persons.
