Big wins for SGGS Club and Chandigarh XI

CHANDIGARH: SGGS Club of Chandigarh got off to a flying start as they blanked Ropar Hawks by 5-0 in the opening match of the 47th S.N. Vohra’s All India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament (A-grade ) at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today.
The highlight of the match was a fine brace by Sukhjeet Singh Anma who scored field goals  in the 41st and 58th minutes,. Vishal Rana had opened their account in the 21st minute. Amandeep also scored two goals (23rd and 68th).
Chandigarh XI also romped home a comfortable 7-1 verdict against Hockey Patiala. The lone goal for Hockey Patiala came from the stick of Vishljit Singh in the 21st minute. Sandeep Singh gave Chandigarh XI their first goal in the eighth minute. Navjot (9th, 39th), Tarandeep Singh (10th, 61st) and Gurjinder Singh (16th, 47th) contributed two goals each for the winners.
Before the start of the tournament, officials and members of Rock Rovers Club prayed for the speedy recovery of Olympic triple gold medalist Balbir Singh Senior. Chandigarh Administration  Secretary Sports Jitender Yadav inaugurated the tournament.
