Asian Festival in Indianapolis a big attraction

INDIANAPOLIS : It was a sizable gathering of 3000 plus at the gala 9th Asian Festival 2016 presented by Asian American Alliance Inc. (IAAC) at the Indiana Stadium Museum/White River State Park on Saturday. A special exhibit on the history of Asian-Americans in Indianapolis. The highlight of the exhibition was to learn about individuals (leaders) who have made an impact in Indiana and influence India, Japan, Korea, China, Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam have had in Indiana history.

AAAI Board President John Huang said "This year in partnership with the state of Indiana's bicentennial, we are proud to be one of the state's official endorsed legacy projects, as well as feature a special exhibit on the history and impact of the Asian Americans in Indiana."

Mr Huang was confident that the visitors' day was filled with new discoveries, flavours, sights and sounds from Asia.

Indianapolis Chinese Community Centre Inc, Dragaon team; Feng Shui talk by Taiwanese Americanl Association of Indianapolis, Indy Bollywood, Bollywood beats; Rajasthani Fold Dance, presentation by Nrityangan Kathak Indian Dance Academy; Chinese cultural programme; Children dance by Philippine Barangay Club; Sayaw by Philippine Dance Company and Asian melodies by Indianapolis Chinese Orchestra were part of the entrainment programme.

Other highlights were Asian Dragan Boat Exhibition by Indy Surviveors; melodies by Abhishek and Dave; University of the Philippines concert chorus; Origami and Japanese calligraphy; Taiwanese calligraphy wirting and traditional wedding and costumes at TAAI cultural booth.

Booth presenters were Amnesty International, Anthem, Best Deal Ticket, Confucius Institute in Indiana, Council of International Education Exchange, East Asian Studies Center of Indiana University, Elwood Staffing, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Eyebrow Art Salon Spa, FC Tucker -Anju Bothra, Global Gifts, Hoosier JACL, ICCI, India Association of Indianapolis, Indiana Association of Chinese Americans/IAAT. Indiana Buddist Center, Indiana Falun Dafa Association, Indiana Grand Racing and Casino, Indy Immigration Law (Griffith Law Group), International Marketplace Coalition, IU Int'l Patient Service, McDonald's, Midwest Language Service LLC, Philippine Cultural Community, Philippine Nurses Association, PNC Bank, Premier Satellite DirectTV Dish Network, Riddhi Siddhi Collections, Taiwanese American Association of Indianapolis, The Nationalalities Council of Indiana, United States Department of Agriculture, USDA-NRCS and Youth for Understanding.

The"Taste of Asia" was available at the Delhi Palace Restaurant, Sunny Chinese Kitchen, Chao VietStreetFood and AAAI beverage booth.

Kids enjoyed Asian mask colouring; balloon twister; chopstick activities and face painting.

Inter-faith leader and world renowned artist KP Singh wrote "The Asian Festival is a place to enjoy colourful dances, musical performances, beautiful cultural displays, traditional and festive dresses, fun, friends, food and festivities."

Mr Singh, who is on the AAAI Board of Directors thanked Rupal Thakkar Thanawala, Young-Hee Yedinak, Jane Gehlhausen, John Huang, Maria Manalang, Diego Morales, Raju Chinthala, Maninder Walia, the entire AAAI Board, volunteers, friends, exhibitors and sponsors for their continued support.

This year more than 3000 plus visitors attended the Asian Festival.
