Amritsar and Patiala enter semi-finals in Katoch Shield

CHANDIGARH: Overnight 55 for 3 in 20 overs Ludhiana fumbled and crumbled for a mere 191 runs in 44.3 overs to crash to 127 runs defeat at the hands of Amritsar in the Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament for Katoch Shield.
The semi finals lineup has been drawn with Amritsar taking on Jalandhar at Amritsar from September 15 while Patiala will take on Ludhiana in the other semi finals at Ludhiana.
The Ludhiana batsmen could not get the measure of the spin of Shivam Sharma and Vinay Chaudhary and at one stage were 145 for 9 before a 46 runs last wicket stand between Harnoor Singh (28) and Rahul Khanna (unbeaten 33 off 19 balls with 3x4s, 2x6s)  took the score to 191.
Shivam Sharma ended the day with a haul of 5 for 86. He was complimented by Vinay Chaudhary (3 for 80) and Dipanshu (2 for 12). With this win Amritsar logged 6 points and topped the Pool with 15 points while Ludhiana took the second slot with a tally of 10 points. Both the teams qualified for the semi finals.
In the second match Patiala trounced Faridkot by innings and 504 runs to garner 7 points while Faridkot got zero. With this win Patiala took the tally to 15 to go to the top of the pool. Resuming at overnight 559 for 4 Patiala declared their innings closed at 689 for 8 in 157 overs. Anmolpreet Singh who was unbeaten on 157 went on to hit a double century 207 off 270 balls inclusive of 15 boundaries and five sixes before he was caught by Harjit off Ravinder.
The other not out batsman Anmol Malhotra who was unbeaten overnight at 130 was unlucky to miss his double century by 2 runs when he was caught by Satinder off Anup for 198 off 206 balls with 14 boundaries and 2 sixes. Ravinder Singh (5 for 23) , Anup Singh (2 for 66) and Gursaravdeep (2 for 99) were the most successful bowlers for Faridkot. Faridkot in their second essay were skittled out for 41 in space of 18 overs. Nine batsmen failed to enter the double figures. Left arm spinner Rajwinder Gollu 4 for 11 and Mayank Markande 6 for 7 were the most successful bowlers for Patiala.
JALANDHAR – MOHALI TIE ENDS IN A STAIL MATE
Resuming overnight 195 for 1 and chasing Jalandhar’s total of 721 for 4 (Decl) Mohali were 638 for 9 in 133 overs when the match ended. Both the teams shared one point each as the first innings could not be completed in the stipulated time. Overnight not out batsman Shubman Gill and Abhijit Garg completed their centuries .
Shubman Gill was first to go when he was caught by wicket keeper Abhishek Gupta off Raghu Sharma for 115 off 120 balls with 10 boundaries and four sixes. Their second wicket stand realised 196 runs. Ramandeep then joined Abhijit Garg and the duo put on 294 runs for the 3rd wicket before Abhijit Garg was caught by H.Barwal off Subek Gill for 197 off 317 balls inclusive of 22 boundaries.
 Ramandeep went out to score 192 off 214 balls inclusive of 22 boundaries and 3 sixes. Anil Yadav 63 was the other contributor with the bat. Subek Gill 4 for 83 and Raghav Sharma 2 for 133 were the main successful bowlers for Jalandhar. Jalandhar with one point took their tally to 11 to end up at number 2 slot in the Pool and move into the semi finals. Mohali made their exit from the tournament.
