Second food safety van flagged off to conduct food testing from Civil Hospital, Amritsar

AMRITSAR: To conduct food sampling and testing in the area of Majha, Second Food Safety van was flagged off here today by Health & Family Welfare Minister Brahm Mohindra from Civil Hospital, Amritsar.

Giving details about the food safety van,. Brahm Mohindra said that this dedicated van would especially visit the rural areas to check the food adulteration and also report regarding adulterated milk, Urea, turmeric and foil coated burfi etc. He said that two technical supervisors would conduct testing of around 500 samples in a day within the area of Majha and submit the report on the spot.

Talking to the media, Brahm Mohindra said that Punjab is the first state to launch the Food Safety App to provide significant information about the adulteration in food items and sampling process. He said that we all know, people of Punjab are well aware about the food adulteration and if anybody wants to get the testing done concerning curd, cheese or water in their area then they should call up the concerned authorities. These services would be provided free of cost to all citizens. He also instructed the food manufacturers to avoid any adulteration in the food items. He also ordered the concerned officers to take immediate action against the business men who are involved in production or sale of contaminated food items.

He announced that as many as 306 doctors would be recruited to fill up the shortage of medical officers in the State. He said that soon at least 92 Rural Medical officers would also join the health department. “Punjab Government has given nod to enhance the salary of doctors and now doctors would get the full salary instead of basic pay”, he added.

He further said that to provide the standardised primary health services in the rural areas 3300 wellness clinic centres would be opened across the state soon. He said that he has given the amount of Rs.10 lakh for the Dental Trauma centre from his discretionary grant. He also visited the eye hospital and inaugurated the new dental clinic. He said that during his last visit, he had promised a new dental clinic to public of Amritsar to open the new dental clinic in a month and now he has fulfilled his promise.
