Rural roads of SBS Nagar District to have facelift by April 2019

NAWANSHAHAR: State Government has approved the mega project meant for facelifting of 452 KMs long rural roads in SBS Nagar. The state government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 41.74 Crore to ensure its completion by April 2019.
Divulging the details, MLAs Angad Singh, Nawanshahr and Ch. Darshan Lal, Balachaur said that state government had approved the rural roads, in first phase, that were due for periodical repair work and were in pathetic condition. The special repair program that would include laying of premix, would provide a major relief to the residents of these villages, they added.
Executive Engineer Punjab State Marketing Board, Jaspal Singh, who has been entrusted the facelift project in the district, said that having completed the tendering process, we have also issued the work orders to the successful bidders. State has also released 25 percent of advance of the total budget, he added.
He further said that during this special repair programme, as many as 64 roads in Nawanshahr Sub Division would be undertaken. As many as 247 KMs of roads would be repaired at an estimated cost of Rs 23.30 crore in Nawanshahr rural belt. Similarly, as many as 33 roads of Banga have been included in this project where a total of 108.8 KM roads would be renovated at an estimated cost of Rs 10.16 Crore. In Balachaur, rural road repair work would undertake 35 roads having total length of 96.88 KMs. A budget of Rs 8.28 crore has been approved for Balachaur, he added.
MLA Balachaur Ch. Darshan Lal added that state government has also approved the long pending demand of the Balachaur area. The Singhpur-Bhaddi-Rattewal-Kathgarh road has been sanctioned under Prime Minister Gram Road Scheme for strengthening and renovation. This 19.5 KM long stretch would be given a facelift at an estimated cost of Rs 11 crore and would be beneficial for thousands of daily commuters.
