HAMIRPUR (HP): No surprise that poor and the state government are coming down on opposite sides of the tracks. The government says ‘living standard’ is better indicator than income but a number of villages have not affordable and accessible health care services as yet in Himachal Pradesh.  “Prayas” comes to their rescue.

“Prayas” for a common man is an effort but it is a solution to the health problems of rural people who are in dire need of health services in district Hamirpur of Himachal Pradesh. In the state public health care is between few and far. Most people are living in absence of accessible and affordable health care. It takes a pause to realize that this really is still continue and one may hope the scene will be very different from what it used to be in the district.

With launch of Prayas” an initiative by the member Parliament, Mr Anurag Thakur a year ago reads like a success story in health care. From his MP LAD fund he arranged a mobile health care van in May 2017. Now the number of such vans rose to three. These mobile vans are equipped with test labs to conduct health problem tests on the spot. It is proposed to provide such vans in 17 assembly segments of Hamirpur Parliament constituency in near future.

The initiative is reaching out to more and more people those are in dire need of health care but cannot make it to the hospitals on one reason or the other. Talking to various sections of people indicated that it has met with enthusiastic response. Not only it has provided health care facilities at the door steps but also steadily expands to more areas and people are forming new expectation and hope.

Living up to its name “Prayas” has so far provided medical care free of cost over 1.50 lakh people. Around 40 tests for various health problems are being conducted free and medicines are also distributed among the patients without any charge. “In a month approximately 3000 people are medically checked up and tests are being conducted. A battery of young takes the charge of the initiative and monitoring it on daily basis,” says Mr Arun Dhumal. People take a long time to come to terms with reality when they are diagnosed with some disease especially in hilly state of Himachal Pradesh led to serious ailments, he adds. “We have made an arrangement for early detection of disease to save the lives of the people,” he said.
Setting an example for other politicians Anurag Thakur has donated a breast cancer detection device of German make at a mobile medical unit in his parliamentary constituency. It sets out to help cancer patients with its own means and help them to recover from the stigma. The device will help early detection of breast cancer and administration of timely medical intervention can save a number of women from deadly disease which is spreading its pangs in the state. The device has become an added feature in the cap of “Prayas” which is providing yeoman service to the rural women in detection breast cancer.

Anurag Thakur is a ‘trust’ that is a compulsive helper in health care in the district and holds a candle to others across the state. His small beginning adds up to something worthwhile one may look ahead to see the possible foundations of a health care system in his constituency and others will follow.

Hailing from a small village Samirpur in district Hamirpur Anurag Thakur energetic, full of passion and easily available has left his mark not only in the state but also on national and international map. People look within him the quality of leading the State.
