Play on drug abuse at RBU draws applause

MOHALI: Prof Daljit Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University, here today called upon the youth, particularly students, to take a pledge to shun drugs and make all-out efforts to make the society drug free. He said that this was necessary in view of the increasing menace of drug addiction among youth in Punjab.

He was speaking at play on drugs de-addiction titled “Dum Toddtey Rishtey” organised by the University School of Social Sciences and University School of Education of the Rayat Bahra University. The play was presented by students of Kranti Kala Manch, Ropar, and sponsored by Sankalp Society, Punjab in the university auditorium.

Prof Daljit Singh, Vice-Chancellor, and OP Midha, Registrar, were the guests of the day. All the faculty members and students were present in the auditorium.

The play highlighted the problem and ill effects of drug addiction which was assuming alarming proportions. It was an initiative taken by Dean Dr Indu Rihani to make the students aware of the negative effects of drugs on mental and physical health and on family life.

Father Jose Kuriakose, President of the Sankalp Society, thanked the students for witnessing the play with rapt attention and asked them to take a pledge to make the society drug free. Prof Daljit Singh, Vice chancellor, appreciated the students who enacted the play.
