DC Jalandhar constitutes 'special squads' of senior officers to check illegal mining

JALANDHAR: In a bid to further check the menace of illegal mining in the district, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma has constituted ‘special mining squads’ comprising of senior officers of the district administration to keep a strict vigil over it.

The Deputy Commissioner has asked the senior officers of the administration be extra vigilant for checking the illegal mining for which these squads would operate rotation wise besides taking stern action on complaints received by the district administration. The officers including the Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars and others have been asked to head these squads and conduct surprise checking round the clock, along with the Police, for effective monitoring over the illegal mining. Mr. Sharma said that as per the directions of the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the district administration was committed to keep a stern vigil over the illegal mining .

The Deputy Commissioner said that the officers incharge of the squad would be held accountable if illegal mining takes place in their respective area. He said that the primary aim of all these steps was to ensure that illegal mining in the district was checked effectively. Mr. Sharma also asked the officers/ officials to ensure strict enforcement of all legal provisions to check illegal mining, if any, in the district .

The Deputy Commissioner said that in addition to this the district administration has already constituted four mining Sub Divisions in the district for a better check on the menace of illegal mining and ensure effective monitoring of it. Mr. Sharma said that as per the mining potential in the district, three mining sub divisions have been formed in the revenue sub divisions of Phillaur, Nakodar and Shahkot and fourth have been formed by merging Sub Divisions of Jalandhar I and II.
