UK Sikh bodies launch #freejagginow campaign for terror accused, Punjab Police rebukes them

CHANDIGARH: Several Sikh organisations and individuals in United Kingdon have launched #freejagginow campaign on twitter to seek release of Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal a British citizen arrested by Punjab Police for funding and conspiring the murders of Hindu leaders allegedly at the behest of ISI of Pakistan.

Punjab Police has rebuked the Sikh organisations trying to probe Johal innocent. Punjab Police spokesman said that Johal was main facilitator in the plot to create communal divide in Punjab as he sent funds through non-banking channels to fund and radicalise the Sikh youth in home state. The Punjab Police see it an attempt to misguide Sikh in name of Khalistan and collect huge funds from Sikhs abroad.

The #freejagginow campaign has got wide response in UK and in other countries and atleast 50 British MPs have assured to support the campaign and approach the India Government to free Jaggi. The Sikh bodies have threatened social boycott of Indian origin MPs in UK if they failed to take up matter with the British Government. The Sikh bodies also slammed British High Commission in India for not providing consular services to Johal.

Johal in the meantime has allegeed third defree torture by Punjab Police in the custody. His counsel Jaspal Singh Manjhpur while opposing firther police remand of Johal informed the court at Baghapurana in Moga district that Johal was being subjected to third degree torure. He also sought medical examination of Johal. Police had demanded 10 days police remand to recover his British passport and court gave three days remand. Manjhpur also handed over a slip stating that Johal's passprot is in possession of British High Commission in Delhi.

Punjab Police claimed that Johal ran an outfit called ‘Never Forget 1984’ in the UK, and was on the radar of the intelligence wing of Punjab Police for the past more than one year. His activities were associated with Khalistan Liberation Force(KLF) and he was under police radar for the last one year.

Johal has got married to a Punjabi gorl in first week of October and he was arrested on Novemebr 4, 2017 days before he was about to leave for UK.
