FATEHGARH SAHIB: Probably working under political pressure, the Shiromani Gurdawara Parbhandak Committee(SGPC) today decided to wsithdraw the 'Shiromani Pattarkar Aaard' bestowed to veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar. The decision was taken at SGPC Executive meeting held here.

SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar has raised serious objection to comparison of radical Sikh leader Jarnail Singh Bhindrawala dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in his recent article. Though SGPC has not given the date and name of the article. Badungar said that Nayar's writing has hurt the religious sentiments of Sikh Community.

SGPC had honoured Nayyar on July 3, 2006 at a function held to mark the 400th anniversary of the foundation of Akal Takht. Dal Khalsa a radical organisation had held a protest against Nayar recently for his remarks on Bhindrawala.

Kuldip Nayar is one of known critics of BJP in the recent times and it is understood that SGPC was under pressure from SAD an alliance partner of BJP to act against Nayar. This is also seen as an attempt by SAD to win over radical Sikhs in Gurdaspur where polling for bye-election will be held tomorrow. The SAD-BJP alliance is on sticky wicket after sex video of senior SAD leader Sucha Singh Langah was leaken in social media.

The decision of SGPC has attracted wide spread criticism on social media. Kuldip Nayar had supported the cause of Sikhs after 1984 anti-Sikh riots and also a strong critic of operation blue star thiough he denounced militancy. SGPC had honoured him for being friend of Sikhs and fighting for the cause of community.
