Punjab Vigilance arrests Phagwara ASI for taking bribe

PHAGWARA:  An Assistant Sub Inspector of Sadar Police Phagwara  Jagtar Singh was arrested by a team of  Vigilance Bureau Jalandhar headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Manjit Singh for taking Rs Three Thousands as bribe from Village Khangurra resident Gagan Kumar in lieu of alteration in a  criminal cases.

The accused, Jagtar Singh was arrested on a complaint of  the Villager Gagan.

DSP Manjit Singh told this correspondent here today that the accused ASI was caught red handed while accepting Rs 3,000 ie in the denomination of Rs 500 Currency Notes.

The complainant said a dispute had been going on between him and a financier and a complaint was lodged in Sadar Police,but the ASI wanted bribe to increase some criminal section against the other party. The arrest was made under section 7-13-2 Under Prevention of Corruption Act,
in the presence of Sectional Officer Inderpreet Singh and Agriculture Officer Amrik Singh on saturday noon, said DSP Vigilance.

Meanwhile when contacted the Superintendent of the Police Phagwara Parminder Singh Bhandal told this correspondent on Saturday evening that the accused ASI Jagtar Singh has been placed under suspension with immediate effect.SP said the corruption in the police could not be tolerated at any cost.
