PATIALA: There are reports that UP police have signed an MOU recently with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for crime mapping, with the scientific application of analytics and prognostic systems. As part of the MOU signed with ISRO, Data from UP Police, UP 100 and CCTNS will be made available to the relevant department in ISRO and through analytical software the State Police will be able to map, visualize and create queries and reports about crimes and criminal incidents.

As Punjab’s crime graph currently showing disturbing upward graphics, therefore Punjab police need to resort to ‘out of the box’ approach to check the striking trend of consistent criminality. Because of the alarming increase in the incidence of the heinous crime and I would very humbly suggest to Chief Minister of Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh, who seems to be woken up lately, ‘after deep slumber’; to direct the Addl. Chief Secretary Home Affairs Dr. Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi, Mr. Suresh Arora DGP, Punjab along with ADGP crime to immediately visit ISRO headquarters with an objective to study the feasibility of the similar initiative for Punjab to control the crime with the help of the software available with the ISRO. The said software will enable the Punjab Police to analyze the crimes and build profiles of the offenders/criminals as well as the complainants and thus helping the Punjab Police in predictive policing. As crime is changing its dimensions everyday, which is why the Punjab police need to explore scientific modules of greater accuracy than those being used by the agents of crime with the help of the upgraded technology. Such an innovative initiative of the Punjab police could be entirely funded by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India; if approached in right earnest, as Punjab being border State is much more vulnerable to ‘cross border terrorism’ and other related crimes, such as drug trafficking.
