Punjab govt constitutes SIT to investigate Kotpapura and Behbal kalan firing

CHANDIGARH: Punjab government tonight constituted Special Investigating Team(SIT) to investigate the cases of firing on Sikhs in Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura. The Sikhs were protesting against sacrilege of Guru Grnath Sahib.

The SIT formed by the state government would probe the findings of Justice Ranjit Singh Commission in which former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was accused to ordering firing and also protecting the accused of sacrilege.

The SIT will be headed by Parboth Kumar ADGP, Bureau of Investigation. The other members of SIT are Arunpal Singh IPS IG Crime,Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh IGP Crime, Satinder Singh SSP Kapurthala and Bhupinder Singh Commandent PRTC Jahankhelan.

The promise of forming SIT was made by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in Punjab Vodhan Sabha. He had also taken back cases from CBI and accepted the demand to et the matter probed from Punjab Police.

Pertinently, the State Government vide notification no. 7/213/2013-3H4/4132 dated August 24, 2018 entrusted the Investigation of case registered under FIR no. 129 of August 7, 2018 police station city Kotkapura in district Faridkot and FIR no. 130 of October 21, 2015 police station Bajakhana in district Faridkot to the Central Bureau of Investigation, which has later been withdrawn vide notification no. 7/521-2013-2H4/906 of September 6, 2018. The SIT has been mandated to co-opt any other officer for the purpose of the investigation of the above mentioned cases, as per the requirement.
