Punjab FCR Karanbir Singh Sidhu takes stock of ongoing work of plugging breach in Ghaggar at Phulad

CHANDIGARH: On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh, Special Chief Secretary-cum-Finance Commissioner, Revenue of Punjab Karanbir Singh Sidhu visited the village Phulad near Moonak today to review the ongoing work of plugging the breach in Ghaggar river.

Speaking to the villagers of different villages at Phulad, Sidhu assured that the Punjab government is worried about the destruction of the crops of the farmers and he assured that once the water level in the fields recedes, special survey of crop loss will be initiated and report will be sent to the government for issuing compensation.

Financial Commissioner Sidhu said that due to the floods in the river Ghaggar farmers suffered crop loss and authorities were told to assess the loss in transparent way so that no affected farmer is deprived of compensation.

He said that the Punjab Government was fully committed to provide adequate compensation to the affected farmers and officers were on the job to prepare a report.

While reviewing the work being done to plug the breach by Army personnel, NDRF, SDRF, civil and police teams, social workers, MGNREGA workers at village Phulad, he said that the water level is decreasing rapidly in the Ghaggar river, and it will help the rescue teams in plugging the breach in short time.

He also said that with continuous coordination with the Deputy Commissioner and the SSP, the government is leaving no stone unturned in completing timely relief work.

Meanwhile, Financial Commissioner also spoke in detail about the situation with Army officers, Additional Deputy Commissioner and SDM Moonak and appreciated the cooperation being given by the Army and all the teams in relief operations. Additional Deputy Commissioner Development Subhash Chandra, SDM Suba Singh and other civil and police officials were also present on the occasion.  

He also appreciated the relentless operation being carried out by Army Battalion from Sangrur Military Station who has been working without break since Thursday to plug the breach.
