CHANDIGARH: PSEB Engineers Association has demanded that decision to close the transformer repair workshops by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) be withheld and a review of decision be carried over after discussion with stakeholders.

Sanjeev Sood President of Association said that damage rate of repaired transformers by private parties is over 25.2% whereas the same is just 8.3% in case of departmentally repaired transformers.Under such circumstances the total repair cost of transformers by private parties is much higher and there is need to review decision.

Sood said that the Association has written to management on the subject and has one discussion meeting with management. It may be mentioned that transformer repair workshops plays a major role in replacing the damaged transformers particularly during paddy season. The private parties will dictate its own terms once these workshops are closed.

PSPCL has decided to immediately close down its five divisions involved in the repairing of the transformers besides it has also allowed close down of its coal fabrication unit well. The employees working in these five workshops are to be transferred as per requirements at different stations.
The Association held its regional meeting at Amritsar and discussed the issue.
