PSEB Engineers Association seeks withdrawal of extension to PSPCL CMD

Punjab News Express/Vinod Gupta
PATIALA: PSEB Engineers’ Association has appealed to Chef Minister to withdraw the illegal & arbitrary extension in age of CMDs of Punjab state power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) From 65 to 67 years given by the previous government.

The Association in a letter to Chef Minister Punjab has drawn his attention to the fact that the term of present CMD PSPCL K.D.Chaudhary was to end on February 8 when he attains the age of 65 years. As his retirement date was falling during the period of election code and so in order to subvert the election code, age of retirement of the CMD was increased to 67years in the last cabinet meeting of previous government on December 10 last year.

It is understood that the extension in retirement age was not even in the cabinet agenda.

Baldev Singh President of Association said that this is probably the only instance in India, where the retirement age has been increased beyond 65 years. Even persons on constitutional posts like Judges of Supreme cannot go beyond 65 years.

Keeping in view the latest decision of the Punjab Cabinet to review all the decisions taken by previous Government during last six months, the association appeals Mariner Singh, Chief Minister that this illegal & arbitrary extension in age of CMDs of PSPCL/PSTCL be withdrawn immediately.

It may be mentioned that KD Chaudhri was appointed as CMD of PSPCL for a period of 1 year in June 2010 and he was given extension for another three years or 62 years of age whichever is earlier. Just before a day he has to attain the age of 62 years the age of retirement of CMD was increased from 62 to 65 years and he was given another extension of one year. After expiry of his third extension, he was allowed to continue till further orders without any term.
