Power demand in Punjab touches 12451 MW

CHANDIGARH: Today the maximum power demand In Punjab touched 12451 MW in the afternoon , an all time high, due to hot and sultry weather and dwindling rain fall in the state.

Maximum power demand in Punjab on Monday was 12266 MW and 10037 MW in Haryana.

Today all the thermal units in the state sector and private sector except one unit of GVK are running. The state sector thermal units are generating around 1657 MW while private thermal units are generating around 3410 MW. The power dral from grid as per share quota and bilateral arrangements was more than 6100 MW.

The power supply in Punjab on Monday was 2703 lakh units and the thermal units in state supplied 1027 lakh units., Hydro units supplied 190 lakh units and 1423 lakh units was drawn as its share quota in central sector and bilateral arrangements.

In the adjoining Haryana power supply on Monday was 2164 lakh units and thermal units supplied 577 lakh units. Today both units of Yamuna Nagar ,one unit of Khedar and four units of Panipat are running .

The water level in reservoirs of Punjab continues to be at low level as compared to last year’s water level. The Bhakra level is 457.08 meters against last year’s level of 481.86 meters on the corresponding day. This water level is about 24.8 meters less from last year. In case of Ranjit Sagar Dam project water level is 505.98 meters against last year’s level of 515.41 meters.
