Nirvana Night celebrated at NRI Girls Hostel of Vet Varsity

LUDHIANA: To accord a warm welcome and make them feel at home, the senior hostel inmates of NRI Girls’ Hostel of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana celebrated Fresher’s Party titled  ‘Nirvana Night 2018’ at Scientist Home. The celebrations began with floral welcome to the chief guest of the evening Mrs. Kanwaljeet Kaur Nanda, wife of the Vice Chancellor whereas the Guest of Honor, Dr. Mrs. Sucheta Sharma, Head, Department of Biochemistry, PAU.

Since hostel is like one’s own home, so the University motivates its hostellers to take pains to keep it neat and clean.  Therefore, to find out the most well-kept room, “The cleanest room challenge” was given to all the NRI Girls’ hostellers wherein Tshering Wangmo, a Bhutanese student of BVSc and AH third year emerged as the winner. The award was adjudged on the parameters of neatness, tidiness and beautiful interiors by  Nidhi Sharma, Warden, NRI Girls’ Hostel, Dr. Manjinder Sharma, Warden, New Girls’ Hostel and the Chief Guests.

The evening saw many dazzling performances by both seniors and juniors alike from energetic dance numbers that made the evening even more charming.  The most interesting part of the event was The Guessing Game where the participants were blindfolded and they had to guess the props by touching or smelling and Kanwardeep Kaur Jannat, a Veterinary student of 2nd year bagged the first prize in it.

Other exciting games held at the party were Musical chairs which were won by Muskanjot Kaur Makkar, followed by the fraternizing game of Tambola which was played by everyone including the guests and Amritpal, Gurleen and Pahul emerged as winners in this well fought Tambola battle. The last game for the night was “passing the parcel” giving interesting challenges to the hostel inmates was won by Sukhmani from College of Veterinary Science.

While addressing the students, Mrs. Kanwaljit Kaur Nanda, Chief Guest of the evening said “New academic session has started in GADVASU and the new students must have settled comfortably in their new surroundings and are well immersed in their academic activities, thus a welcome party is a much awaited affair for seniors as well as juniors.”

NRI Girls’ Hostel Warden, Nidhi Sharma while complementing the hostel Prefect, Hunar Brar, said the students worked untiringly to put together entertainment programs that enthralled the distinguished guests and audience alike and drew them irresistibly on to the stage to join in the fun. Dr. Mrs. Sucheta Sharma blessed the students and encouraged them to work hard and also congratulated the winners.
