MOHALI:The Sehajdhari Sikh Party Supremo Dr.Paramjeet Singh Ranu revealed in a Press conference that the newly formed 'Shiromani Akali Dal' by vetran Akali MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa Ex Minister will not get a nod to this name from the Election Commission of India, mentioning that the Sehajdhari Sikh Party has already faced this legal technical hindrance while getting their party registration in 2001.
The Sehajdharis formed a new party on 4 Nov 2001 before Shri Akal Takht Sahib Amritsar after holding a congregation in the campus and announced it as 'Sehajdhari Shiromani Akali Dal' and applied on this name before the Election Commission of India. The EC objected the name vide its letter dated 18 dec 2001 stating categorically that “the name of 'Sehajdhari Shiromani Akali Dal' resembles with the name of 'Shiromani Akali Dal' a recognised State Party. you are advised to choose some other name so as to avoid confusion in minds of the electors on account of similarities of name.” Then it was registered as 'Sehajdhari Sikh Federation' which later changed to 'Sehajdhari Sikh Party' now.
Dr.Ranu said if Dhindsa anyway succeeds in getting his party registered as 'Shiromani Akali Dal' or 'Shiromani Akali Dal Democratic', then the Sehajdhari Sikh Party will also claim for its original name as 'Sehajdhari Shiromani Akali Dal'. Dr.Ranu claims that his grandfather late S.Gurdial Singh Ranu was a vetran Akali worker who was an associate of Former Governor Late S. Surjit Singh Barnala and had sacrificed for the SAD by getting arrested during Punjabi Suba Morcha thats why he added the name of Shiromani Akali Dal to his party but could not succeed.
Dr.Ranu said the New Akali Dal of Dhindsa and his team are cotorie of diffused ammunition who had been always rejected by the masses. Even their President S.Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa has never won any election but on the mercy of Badals he enjoyed the plum post of Cabinet Minister in Union of India as a nominated Rajya Sabha parliamentarian. Losing battle on 3-3 lakh votes and getting nominated as MP was hurting the masses due to which workers and people lost their faith in SAD as they observed that their mandate was not honoured by the SAD. This new party will have no impact in 2022 legislative elections as there will be no panthic agenda this time. Youth is harping for job security and people lost their livelihood due to the pandemic.
